The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is the nation's leading nonprofit dedicated to colorectal cancer. Together with a nation of passionate allies, we advocate for prevention, magnify support, and accelerate research to end this disease. Inequities in colorectal cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment among the most vulnerable communities continue to persist. Our programs are designed to put health equity first. We are seeking a motivated Digital Marketing Intern to join our team. This role is ideal for someone eager to gain hands-on digital experience. As a Digital Marketing Intern, you will be able to help in various online marketing initiatives to enhance the Colorectal Cancer Alliance's online presence and engage with our community.
Key responsibilities:
Email and Mobile Marketing:
- Learn how to create and implement Email Campaigns:
- Provide support with drafting content and designing emails for campaigns
- Assist in designing banners/imagery in Canva
- Email Research Projects:
- Research industry trends and competitor email strategies to inform campaign development
- Research current email marketing laws and regulations, such as CAN-SPAM and GDPR
- Research current SMS trends for non profit organizations
- Mobile:
- Learn about SMS messaging
- Assist with drafting SMS messages
- Reporting:
- Learn about important email metrics. Help monitor email performance, evaluate success, and suggest areas for improvement
- Learn about and make suggestions/recommendations for future email testing
- Analyze metrics for SMS messages
Social Media Marketing:
- Scheduling:
- Learn how to schedule upcoming social media posts for the Alliance and Lead From Behind using Sprout Social
- Community management:
- Help with responding to messages and comments we receive on Alliance social media channels in a kind, understanding, and on-brand tone
- Copywriting:
- Assist with writing copy (captions) for social media posts
- Edit stories we receive for grammatical errors
- Social listening:
- Learn how to stay on top of online conversations around colorectal cancer with social listening
- Respond to posts as either the Alliance or Lead From Behind where applicable
- Video editing
- Learn how to edit videos by shortening them, adding on-screen captions, and more
- Research:
- Research our competitors to see what they’re doing well
- Research innovative social content in an ever-changing social media landscape (ex: Instagram no longer supporting UGC content)
Desired Skills and Experience:
Pursuit of a degree in Marketing or Communications with a desire to work in a digital marketing role after graduation. Previous experience with email and mobile marketing, copywriting, social media content creation and management are a plus but required.

This position can be based in either the Alliance’s Washington, DC headquarters or be fully remote.
