In memoriam: Amy Low
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude that the Colorectal Cancer Alliance commemorates the life of Amy Low, a valued member of our Board of Directors and a beacon of hope for so many. Amy passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, surrounded by the family she loved dearly.
Amy dedicated her life to advocacy, truth, and storytelling. From her early days as a student journalist addressing injustices on her college campus, to her transformative work at Porter Novelli and GMMB, Amy never stopped championing vital causes. As Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer at Landesa, she tackled global poverty by advancing land rights. Most recently, at Emerson Collective, she orchestrated fellowship portfolios and media grants, forging bold paths in education reform, immigration, and climate change. Through each role, she remained a persuasive and passionate voice for progress.
A proud mother to Connor and Lucy, Amy loved sharing the world’s stories and struggles with her children, encouraging them — and everyone around her — to face challenges with resilience and empathy. In July 2019, when diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic colon cancer, she met her most formidable test with the same determination that defined her life. Amy’s memoir, The Brave In Between: Notes from the Last Room, published just months before her passing, offers a sacred invitation to navigate life’s uncertainties with grace, humility, and hope.
Amy’s unwavering spirit and her ability to see light amid darkness continue to guide us. Her words remind us that joy and sorrow, triumph and tragedy, can coexist as sources of learning and compassion. Even in her final pages, she spoke of new beginnings, inviting us to see a world where we are loved, healed, and where our stories are just unfolding.
In honor of Amy’s extraordinary life and contributions, the Alliance has established a memorial fund in her name: https://impact.ccalliance.org/fundraiser/5953953.
The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is forever grateful for Amy’s leadership, perseverance, and kind heart. Her story continues to inspire us all to think bravely, act boldly, and love unconditionally. Her light endures in our mission and in every life she touched.
