Joe Whalen

Joe has almost 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry leading and supporting transactions involving licensing, acquisitions, and alliances. Joe was among the first 20 employees when he joined Horizon Therapeutics in 2010 and led or supported many of Horizon’s acquisitions as Senior Vice President of Business Development & Alliances, growing Horizon’s sales to over $3.6 billion in 2022. Horizon was acquired by Amgen in October of 2023 for $28 billion.

Prior to Horizon, Joe was at Baxter Healthcare and Searle Pharmaceuticals in various finance and business development roles. Joe earned an MBA from the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He is on the industry advisory boards at the Harper Cancer Research Institute at the University of Notre Dame and at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine.

Joe and his wife Jen became involved with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance after losing Jen’s younger brother Ryan to this terrible disease.
