Colorectal Cancer Alliance and Chrono.gg Partner for Fundraising Event in Memory of Gamer TotalBiscuit
National nonprofit Colorectal Cancer Alliance (Alliance) and video game retailer Chrono.gg begin Sunday a week-long partnership in memory of game commentator and critic John Peter Bain, who was commonly known as TotalBiscuit. Bain died from colorectal cancer in May at age 33.
Chrono.gg will donate its proceeds from Sept. 9 to Sept. 15 to the Alliance to support the organization’s work in colorectal cancer prevention, research and patient and family support. Austin, Texas-based Chrono.gg sells a new video game online every 24 hours.
“John was a dear friend of mine and an incredible partner of Chrono.gg,” said Justin Sacks, CEO of Chrono.gg. “I’m really proud of this event and I hope everyone can participate.”
Bain’s death represents an alarming trend in colorectal cancer, with rising incidence and mortality rates in adults younger than 50. Today, about 11 percent of colorectal cancer cases occur in this age group, with many patients initially receiving a misdiagnosis.
“We are proud to honor the memory of TotalBiscuit, inspired by Chrono.gg’s generosity and hopeful that this event brings greater colorectal cancer awareness to the gaming community,” said Nick Edwards, director of corporate and foundation giving at the Alliance. “Ending this disease within our lifetime requires support from big-hearted companies like Chrono.gg, who recognize the tragedy of this disease.”
More than 140,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year, and more than 50,000 will die. When discovered early, colorectal cancer is highly treatable.
Games for sale during the week will include many of Total Biscuit’s personal favorites, such as XCOM 2, Civilization VI, War for the Overworld, Redout and Invisigun Heroes.
